Bristol’s The Blue Aeroplanes reach their 14th studio album with Tales From The Silver Lounge, another helping of their wonderfully ramshackle guitar rock and distinctive spoken-word vocals. The concept centres on overheard conversations in a mysterious café-bar on an unnamed planet, providing a suitably strange setting for Gerard Langley’s lyrical wanderings. Subjects range from Greek mythology and First World War history to abandoned Teslas, falconry and music-hall jokes. Packed with interlocking guitars, offbeat poetry and the band’s familiar eccentricity, it’s unmistakably The Blue Aeroplanes.
